Shock Findings as 30% of Manufacturers/Importers Need to Pre-register

Although experts and REACh consultants inform their audience of everything they need to know about the pre-registration for REACh they struggle to provide easy to translate practical advice or offer solutions that will save the manufacturer time and money in implementing a REACh strategy.

In our experience around 30% of companies in the manufacturing industry, not necessarily chemical manufacturers are producing something that needs to be pre registered under REACh. Candles for example are articles releasing a bi-product (an article with intentional release) and therefore the substances in the candle need REACh registration if supply is to be REACh compliant and legally continue.

The difficulty for businesses is knowing which of their substances to pre-register and that is definitely not as simple as it first appears. Many people are unsure what exactly they should and shouldn’t pre-register and what the obligations would be.

REACh has a very wide scope. It applies to all chemical substances which are manufactured, imported, placed on the market, or used within the European Community, either on their own, in a preparation or in an article. Some substances are exempted from the overall scope of REACh while others are exempted from certain provisions.

Many manufactures/suppliers have not yet registered any of there products – this may be for the reason of they may manufacturer Doors for example not chemicals, but there will be chemicals that are used on the wood of the door either to stain or to persevere the wood. This may still need to be pre-registered under REACh and therefore supply chain communication and supply chain analysis is critical in maintaining business continuity.

REACh consultants are in high demand and subsequently very expensive. REACh compliance software can reduce costs of consultancy by effective supply chain communication. REACH365 is a groundbreaking application which allows product and supplier information to be collated online. REACH365 communicates up the supply chain gathering key information about REACh progress and chemicals involved in processes greatly reducing the consultancy time involved in analysing risks to business.

WARNING: Pre-registration ends November 30th 2008!
